Wayne Bennett has made his inaugural bold move at South Sydney by securing the talented Manly utility Jamie Humphreys for the 2025 season.
Grandson of former league chief Kevin Humphreys, Jamie excels in both pivotal roles on the field – halfback and hooker.
Bennett is poised to offer the 22-year-old an opportunity in the Rabbitohs’ number nine jersey next year.
Humphreys switched from halfback to hooker this season and has impressed in the lower tiers, earning Manly’s 2023 Jersey Flegg Players’ Players accolade and establishing himself as a future first-grade prospect at the club.
Due to obstacles posed by veteran halves Daly Cherry-Evans and Luke Brooks, as well as hooker Lachlan Croker, Humphreys found his pathway at Manly blocked. Seeing an opportunity under Bennett at Souths, known for his willingness to nurture young talent, Humphreys opted for a potential breakthrough.
Just this week, the Dragons secured Souths’ hooker Damien Cook, setting the stage for Humphreys to vie with another emerging talent, Peter Mamouzelos, for the hooking role at the Bunnies.
