John Longmire, Senior Coach of the Swans

In a significant move for the Sydney Swans, emerging defender Matt Roberts has signed a contract extension, committing to the club until at least the end of 2027. The 20-year-old, who was already under contract until the end of 2025, has shown his loyalty and belief in the club’s future by extending his stay for an additional two seasons.

Originally drafted from South Adelaide with pick 34 in the 2021 draft, Roberts has played 19 AFL games, including 12 this season, following a fantastic summer of hard work. The left-footer has predominantly played across half-back this season but has the ability to push into the midfield as his game continues to develop.

“I’m only early in my footy career, but I’m extremely grateful to the club for showing faith in me for a further couple of years,” Roberts said. “I love this place, and I love coming here to train every day. I feel we are in a good spot to get some success as a group in the next few years. I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

We’re thrilled Matt has committed to the club for the long term, and we’re excited to watch his development.”

Roberts’ commitment to the Swans is a testament to the positive environment and promising future at the club. As he continues to develop his skills and gain more experience, Roberts is expected to play a crucial role in the Swans’ quest for success in the coming years.
