Last year, Sydney attempted to lure the Eagles’ premiership player to the East Coast without success. Now, Western Bulldogs and Collingwood have joined the race.
Barrass, 28, is under contract until 2027 but could become an unrestricted free agent afterward. Any potential deal would need to be compelling for West Coast.
The Bulldogs, likely to receive a top-10 pick for Bailey Smith, see Barrass as an intriguing prospect. Jon Ralph, speaking on Fox Footy’s Midweek Tackle, suggested that the draft assets from a Smith trade could facilitate a move for Barrass.
“Several months ago, we reported the Bulldogs’ strong interest in Tom Barrass,” Ralph said. “With the departure of Bailey Smith, they may have the resources to acquire him.”
The Bulldogs appear committed to immediate success, aiming to reinforce their aging defense. Barrass responded to the rumors, indicating his preference to stay with West Coast unless the club’s stance changes.
“I’m focused on being a West Coast Eagles player,” Barrass told 7 News’ Ryan Daniels. “Speculation about my future is routine in AFL; clubs pursuing established key players is part of the game’s fabric.”
