Former Hawthorn and Collingwood ruckman Max Lynch, who retired from the AFL less than a year ago due to persistent concussion issues after a brief career of 11 games over seven years, has now secured a significant coaching role at the grassroots level. Lynch, 25, will return to his roots at Albury Tigers as their full-time senior coach starting next year. This move adds to his coaching experience, having previously worked with Hawthorn’s AFLW program.
Albury Tigers announced their succession plan this week, appointing Lynch to lead the Ovens and Murray League for the next three years. He replaces Anthony Miles and Shaun Daly, former AFL players, as co-coaches. The club expressed their gratitude to Miles and Daly and eagerly anticipates Lynch’s leadership in the upcoming season.
Lynch’s AFL journey began in 2016 with Collingwood, where he played three games before moving to Hawthorn in 2022, where he played eight games under coach Sam Mitchell before retiring.
Currently positioned sixth on the O&MFL ladder with five wins and five losses from ten matches, Albury Tigers are optimistic about Lynch’s contribution to their future success.
