With Lucas Giolito out for the season and Garrett Whitlock also sidelined, the Boston Red Sox are feeling the strain on their starting rotation, despite surpassing expectations this year. The need for an addition seems crucial to bolster their ranks.
According to reports, Luis Severino, currently with the New York Mets and a former standout with the Yankees, may become available this summer. Jon Heyman of the New York Post noted that the Mets could entertain offers for their surplus of starters, including Severino.
“Boston had shown interest in Severino in the past, and now could be the ideal destination if he hits the market,” Heyman mentioned.
Severino has regained his form with the Mets after returning from injury, making him an enticing prospect for the Red Sox. Previously, Boston had pursued him in free agency before the 2024 season commenced. Landing Severino could fortify their rotation without compromising their top-tier prospects, potentially setting the stage for a long-term arrangement in Boston.
