Since hiring head coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Joe Hortiz, the LA Chargers have consistently brought in personnel with ties to their leadership. This approach includes appointing Greg Roman and Jesse Minter as coordinators, alongside several former Baltimore Ravens players on the roster.
Harbaugh has also emphasized hiring former players to his coaching staff, such as NaVorro Bowman, the team’s linebackers coach, and Nick Hardwick, an assistant offensive line coach, both without prior NFL coaching experience.
Continuing this trend, former San Francisco 49ers tight end Delanie Walker announced his addition to Harbaugh’s coaching staff for the Chargers’ upcoming training camp during an appearance on “Raw Room.”
Walker, although not a full-time coach, brings extensive experience as a multi-time Pro Bowl tight end known for his all-around abilities. His presence could significantly benefit the Chargers’ tight ends, particularly in adapting to Greg Roman’s offensive system, where Walker previously thrived.
For Walker, this opportunity serves as a test of his coaching acumen and potential future in the profession. Should he excel, there’s potential for a more permanent role under Harbaugh, allowing him to further influence the development of young players.
