Former Boilermakers Lance Jones and Dakota Mathias Secure Spots on Pacers’ Summer League Squad

Two former Purdue guards are set to become teammates for the first time in their careers as Lance Jones and Dakota Mathias secure spots on the Indiana Pacers’ NBA Summer League roster, which was unveiled on Monday.

Jones, who spent the 2024 season at Purdue following a standout four-year stint at Southern Illinois, played a pivotal role in Purdue’s success, helping them secure a second consecutive Big Ten regular-season title and reach the National Championship Game. During his lone season in West Lafayette, Jones averaged 11.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 41.3% from the field and 35.7% from beyond the arc.

Reflecting on his workout with the Pacers, Jones remarked, “I think it went really well. I feel like I competed at a high level along with the other guys.”

Mathias, who played for Purdue from 2014 to 2018, had a standout senior season, averaging 12.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. He amassed over 1,000 points during his collegiate career, totaling 1,140 points. Since leaving West Lafayette, Mathias has gained experience with the Philadelphia 76ers, Memphis Grizzlies, their G-League affiliates, and most recently with RatioPharm Ulm in Germany’s Basketball Bundesliga in 2023.

Both Jones and Mathias enjoyed successful collegiate careers under coach Matt Painter at Purdue, although they never had the chance to share the court together.

Their opportunity arrives in just a few weeks when both former Boilermakers aim to impress and earn spots in the NBA during the summer league.
