Just over a year ago, Saint-Maximin departed Newcastle for Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli in a transfer valued around £22 million. Following an impressive 2023-24 season with 4 goals and 10 assists under the ownership of PIF, the 27-year-old French winger is now strongly linked with a move to Turkish outfit Fenerbahce, managed by Jose Mourinho.
According to reports from Fotomac in Turkey, Fenerbahce has reportedly reached a significant agreement with Saint-Maximin, potentially positioning him to compete in the Champions League qualifiers next season, a chance he missed with Newcastle last year.
However, a transfer fee must first be agreed upon between Al Ahli and Fenerbahce.
Moving to Turkey would also offer Saint-Maximin the opportunity to work under Mourinho, one of the most successful managers in recent football history. Mourinho, who boasts 26 trophies in his managerial career, took charge of Fenerbahce recently after departing AS Roma in January.
Mourinho’s mission at Fenerbahce is to help the Istanbul club end a decade-long Super Lig title drought. Despite finishing the 2023-24 season with an impressive 99 points and just one defeat, Fenerbahce narrowly missed out to Galatasaray, who clinched the title by a three-point margin with 33 wins, three draws, and two losses.
During his time at Newcastle, Saint-Maximin made 124 appearances over four seasons, scoring 13 goals. His departure last summer was celebrated by fans, with the funds raised aiding Newcastle’s subsequent signings of Harvey Barnes and Tino Livramento later in the transfer window.
