The Chicago White Sox have continued their proactive approach during the All-Star break, making a significant move by signing versatile infielder/outfielder Nick Senzel to a major-league contract, according to sources confirmed by the Tribune on Tuesday evening.

Senzel, who recently played 64 games for the Washington Nationals this season, joins the White Sox after being designated for assignment by the Nationals on July 6 and subsequently released last Thursday. The signing was first reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

During his stint with the Nationals this year, Senzel posted a slash line of .209/.303/.359, contributing 10 doubles, seven home runs, and 18 RBIs. His career statistics span six major-league seasons, including time with the Cincinnati Reds (2019-2023) and the Nationals (2024), with a cumulative batting line of .235/.302/.368. Senzel has accumulated 63 doubles, 40 home runs, and 143 RBIs since being selected as the No. 2 overall pick by the Reds out of the University of Tennessee in the 2016 MLB Draft.

Known for his defensive versatility, Senzel, now 29 years old, has primarily featured at third base, making 45 starts there this season and totaling 88 starts at the position over his career. Additionally, he has logged significant time in center field with 243 career starts, as well as appearances in left field (15 starts), right field (8 starts), and second base (7 starts). His adaptability across multiple positions adds depth and flexibility to the White Sox roster.

The addition of Senzel underscores the White Sox’s commitment to bolstering their roster as they position themselves for a strong second half of the season and a potential postseason push. With his ability to contribute both offensively and defensively at various positions, Senzel represents a valuable asset as the team aims to strengthen their lineup and defensive alignments down the stretch.

The White Sox are hopeful that Senzel’s experience and versatility will complement their existing core of talent and contribute to their competitive edge as they navigate the challenges of the remainder of the season and pursue their postseason aspirations.
