Oklahoma State University has made a strategic move by appointing Sean Snyder, a seasoned figure in college football with deep roots in coaching and administration, to oversee its punters and kickers. Sean Snyder, 54, brings a wealth of experience from his extensive tenure at Kansas State, where he served in various capacities over nearly three decades, including playing, coaching, and administrative roles.

The son of legendary Kansas State coach Bill Snyder, Sean Snyder’s coaching journey included a pivotal stint as the special teams coordinator at USC from 2020 to 2021, followed by a role as the special teams coordinator and specialists coach at Illinois in 2022. Most recently, Snyder served as a special assistant to the head coach at Kansas, where he continued to contribute his expertise to the special teams unit.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Sean to our coaching staff. His extensive background with kickers, punters, and special teams concepts is invaluable,” remarked OSU head coach Mike Gundy in a statement. Gundy expressed optimism about the impact Snyder will bring to the team, highlighting his track record of success and leadership in the realm of special teams.

During his tenure at Kansas State, Snyder’s special teams units achieved significant milestones, setting or tying eight team records and 20 individual marks. His coaching prowess was further underscored by the development of four Big 12 Special Teams Players of the Year under his guidance.

Sean Snyder’s own playing career at Kansas State was illustrious, culminating in recognition as a consensus All-American and All-Big Eight first-team punter in 1992. He was also honored as the Big Eight Defensive Newcomer of the Year in 1991. Snyder’s contributions to Kansas State’s football legacy were cemented with inductions into the university’s inaugural Ring of Honor class in 2002 and its Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.

With Snyder’s appointment, Oklahoma State looks to bolster its special teams unit and build upon its football program’s competitive edge in the upcoming seasons. The addition of such a seasoned and respected figure underscores the university’s commitment to excellence in all aspects of collegiate football.
