The Boston Red Sox and Colorado Rockies saw benches clear amid a personal exchange during their recent game.
During the top of the fourth inning, Rockies pitcher Cal Quantrill faced Boston’s Reese McGuire right after the catcher’s pop-out. Quantrill, sensing an easy out, let out a loud yell, with Colorado leading 8-2 and a runner on third.
McGuire, visibly perplexed by the outburst, shot Quantrill a glance as he ran towards first base. Words were exchanged between the two before teammates intervened, but Quantrill delivered a personal jab, referencing McGuire’s arrest in February 2020 for indecent exposure.
“You j—ed off in a f—ing parking lot, you dumb f—,” Quantrill shouted.

McGuire had indeed faced accusations related to this incident, where deputies responded to a report at his then-Toronto Blue Jays’ spring training facility in Dunedin, Florida. Police found McGuire sitting in an SUV with minimal clothing, leading to charges of disorderly conduct to which he later pleaded no contest, receiving a $500 fine.
Despite the heated exchange, no punches were thrown as both teams quickly cleared the benches. Colorado seemed to channel the energy from the skirmish into their gameplay, extending their lead with five runs in the fourth inning and six more in the sixth, ultimately dominating 19-3.
The incident highlighted tensions between the teams but also underscored Colorado’s aggressive play on the field.
