As the Las Vegas Raiders gear up for their Week 2 preseason game, they’ve added a familiar face to their quarterback roster: Nathan Peterman, who previously spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons with the team.
Peterman, a seven-year NFL veteran, is well-acquainted with both the Raiders and their current offensive scheme. After two seasons in Las Vegas, he played for the Chicago Bears under Luke Getsy, the first-year Raiders offensive coordinator, during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
While with the Bears, Nathan Petermancompleted 14 of 25 pass attempts, throwing for one touchdown and one interception. All of these attempts occurred during the 2022 season, where the Pittsburgh alum earned a passing grade of 68.0 from Pro Football Focus.
Peterman will compete with quarterbacks Anthony Brown and Carter Bradley for the emergency quarterback role as the new season approaches.
To make room for Nathan Peterman, the Las Vegas Raiders waived wide receiver Keelan Doss. Doss had been re-signed by the Raiders following the sudden retirement of Michael Gallup, who had joined the team on a one-year deal this offseason.
However, just three weeks later, the Raiders decided to go in a different direction, likely influenced by the standout performances of receivers D.J. Turner, Kristian Wilkerson, and Ramel Keyton during training camp. In the Raiders’ first preseason game, Turner caught the team’s only receiving touchdown, proving his value beyond special teams.
These three receivers currently lead the race for the final roster spots at the position. The key question now is whether the Raiders will carry five or six receivers into the season. With D.J. Turner also serving as a returner, carrying six receivers seems like a strong possibility, though the remaining preseason games will provide more clarity.
Speedster Jalen Guyton remains in contention as well. Raiders general manager Tom Telesco, who brought Guyton to the Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2019, reunited with him in Las Vegas during his first year with the Raiders.
