It was a mixed Saturday for former Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman, who played nearly the entire second half for the Washington Commanders in their preseason opener against the New York Jets. Hartman completed 8 of 13 passes for 83 yards and had a key 17-yard run on third down that contributed to a Commanders touchdown. His most impressive play was a 42-yard completion to Dyami Brown, which stood out as his best throw of the game.
However, Hartman sustained a shoulder injury late in the game and had to leave with two possessions still remaining.

On Monday, Commanders Head Coach Dan Quinn provided an update on Hartman’s condition. “Sam will be out today and tomorrow. If he and a few other players don’t return in time for practice, they wouldn’t play on Saturday,” Quinn stated.
Although the injury doesn’t seem to be serious or long-term, which is reassuring, Hartman is at a critical juncture as he tries to secure a spot on the Commanders’ roster. We’ll be monitoring his recovery and progress closely as training camp continues.
