The Indianapolis Colts already have a dependable running back in Jonathan Taylor, but a trade proposal involving Miles Sanders could provide the former Pro Bowler with a fresh start in the AFC.

Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine recently proposed several trade scenarios for players seeking new opportunities, including high-profile names like defensive lineman Jonathan Allen and wide receiver Tee Higgins. Among these, Ballentine suggested a trade that would send Sanders to the Colts.

Ballentine believes Indianapolis would be an ideal place for Sanders to revive his career. He highlighted that Sanders enjoyed his best season with the Eagles when Shane Steichen was their offensive coordinator. In 2022, Sanders rushed for 1,347 yards and 11 touchdowns before Steichen departed to become the Colts’ head coach.

Although Sanders may not be the player he once was, he could still serve a significant role for the Colts.

Miles Sanders experienced a challenging 2023 season, but a new environment might be beneficial. Sanders’ breakout year came during his final college season at Penn State, where he amassed 1,274 yards and nine touchdowns after taking over from future NFL star Saquon Barkley.

The Philadelphia Eagles selected Sanders in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He eventually became a Pro Bowl running back in 2022, setting a career high with 1,269 yards and 11 touchdowns while staying healthy throughout the season. This performance earned him a lucrative four-year, $25.4 million contract with the Carolina Panthers last offseason.

Unfortunately, Sanders’ 2023 season with the Panthers was marred by a dismal 2-15 record and a struggling offensive line, leading to career-low statistics. He scored just one rushing touchdown and averaged only 3.3 yards per carry. If the Panthers cannot improve their offensive performance in 2024, a change of scenery might be the best solution for both Sanders and the team

Jonathan Taylor is one of the premier running backs in the NFL when healthy, but if he is unable to play at any point in 2024, the Colts currently lack a reliable backup. Zack Moss, who performed well in Taylor’s absence last season, has since departed in free agency, leaving the Colts with several less experienced options.

Tyler Goodson had some limited opportunities last season and averaged a strong 6.7 yards per carry. However, his notable drop on a crucial fourth down during the season finale may be remembered by fans.

Evan Hull, a promising rookie from Northwestern, impressed during training camp last season but missed the entire year due to a knee injury. Other backup candidates include Trey Sermon and Zavier Scott. Acquiring a seasoned veteran like Sanders could provide the Colts with a more established backup option behind Taylor.
