The Dallas Cowboys have added veteran running back Dalvin Cook to their roster, just a day after finalizing their 53-player squad for the 2024 regular season. The four-time Pro Bowler’s representatives confirmed the signing to NFL Network.

Cook, who is set to join the Cowboys’ 16-man practice squad, had a stint with the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens last season. He saw limited action with the Jets before being released in January, and later contributed in the postseason with the Ravens.

His arrival in Dallas brings a sense of nostalgia, as he will be reunited with Mike Zimmer, his former head coach with the Minnesota Vikings from 2017-2021. During those five years, Cook amassed 4,820 rushing yards and 39 touchdowns, along with 1,499 receiving yards and three scores.

In the previous season with the Jets, Cook averaged fewer than six touches per game before joining the Ravens, where he ran for 23 yards on eight carries in a playoff win against the Houston Texans.

Cook will join the Cowboys’ running back lineup, which includes Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, and fullback Hunter Luepke. He is expected to play a significant role once he transitions off the practice squad.

The Cowboys begin the 2024 NFL season on the road against the Cleveland Browns on September 8, with kickoff at 3:25 p.m. ET / 12:25 p.m. PT.
