Auburn Tigers running back Brian Battie, who was hospitalized following a shooting in May that tragically took the life of his brother Tyrone, has been discharged from the hospital but still has a long road to recovery. Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze provided an update on Battie’s condition during the SEC head coaches teleconference on Wednesday.
Freeze had the chance to visit Battie in person for the first time recently, having previously communicated via FaceTime with him or his mother when Battie wasn’t up for it. Freeze noted that the visit was meaningful, as he spent the morning with Battie and his family before Battie’s therapy session.
Freeze shared insights into Battie’s ongoing recovery, emphasizing that while Battie is facing significant challenges, including difficulties with walking, he remains optimistic and determined. Battie expressed a desire to attend an Auburn game, reflecting his positive spirit despite the hurdles.
In his debut season with the Tigers in 2023, Battie appeared in every game, primarily as a kick-off returner, and accumulated 227 rushing yards and one touchdown. Prior to Auburn, Battie was an All-American at South Florida following a standout 2022 season.
