The Seattle Seahawks have signed former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Jaren Hall, adding him as their third quarterback. This move follows the release of quarterback PJ Walker less than a week earlier. Hall will serve as the team’s new backup behind Geno Smith and Sam Howell. To accommodate Hall, the Seahawks have let go of wide receiver Easop Winston Jr., known for his impressive 4.42-second 40-yard dash at Washington State.
Hall joined the Seahawks’ practice on September 2, 2024, just hours after his signing was announced. He arrives just before the team’s season opener against the Denver Broncos on September 8.
Hall, 26, was drafted by the Vikings in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft but was released as the team finalized its roster for Week 1. During his rookie season, he played in three games due to Kirk Cousins’ season-ending ACL injury, starting two of them. Hall threw for 168 yards, completing 65% of his passes, but did not record any touchdowns and threw one interception.
At BYU, Hall had a standout college career, throwing for 3,171 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions in his final season. He also added 350 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns, marking his best statistical year.
NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compared Hall to new Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew before the 2023 draft, noting Hall’s impressive field command and accuracy but also pointing out concerns about his size and arm strength.
With Geno Smith and Sam Howell both under contract for the next two seasons, Hall is expected to be a developmental prospect rather than an immediate contributor. All three quarterbacks will be working to secure their roles with the team under first-year head coach Mike Macdonald.
