The Ohio State Buckeyes will be without one of their top defensive backs, Lathan Ransom, for the rest of the regular season. Head coach Ryan Day announced that Ransom will miss the remainder of the season due to a lower-body injury.
Ransom sustained the injury early in the fourth quarter of the Buckeyes’ recent win against Wisconsin. It occurred during a non-contact play, leading Ransom to immediately head to the injury tent for evaluation before being carted off the field by the medical staff.
In the Buckeyes’ game against Michigan State, Ransom was seen using a scooter and wearing a walking boot on his foot. After the game, Day described the injury as “long-term,” though he did leave the door open for a potential return during the postseason, including the Big Ten title game if the team advances to Indianapolis.
Prior to the injury, Ransom was fourth on the team in tackles with 31 total (20 solo and 11 assisted), and had recorded one interception, two pass breakups, a forced fumble, a quarterback hurry, and half a tackle for loss. Ransom has previously dealt with a serious injury, having been carted off during the 2022 Rose Bowl with a broken leg against Utah. However, he made a successful comeback and returned to his standout form.
