The Green Bay Packers are continuing their transition from the Aaron Rodgers era, aiming to build on their 9-8 record from last season, which ended with a loss in the divisional playoffs. With second-year quarterback Jordan Love at the helm, the team hoped for improvement, but Love suffered a knee injury during their narrow 34-29 defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL’s historic game in Brazil on September 7. His availability for their upcoming game against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday remains uncertain.
In light of Love’s injury, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has suggested that the Packers should consider trading for a young quarterback like Zach Wilson from the Denver Broncos. Wilson, the second overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, is currently behind Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham on Denver’s depth chart. Knox described the Packers as a “logical suitor” for Wilson, alongside the New York Giants.
Knox pointed out that with Love potentially unavailable for the immediate future, the Packers may need to acquire another quarterback to navigate the upcoming weeks. He also noted that the Packers are not expected to pursue a veteran quarterback, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, though this could change based on the performance of backup Malik Willis in Week 2.
While Love has shown potential, he still faces a steep learning curve and issues with consistency. A change of scenery could benefit Wilson, who has yet to meet expectations after a stellar career at Brigham Young University.
