Denver Broncos second-year cornerback Riley Moss has secured a starting position this summer and has performed admirably during the team’s first two games of the 2024 season. His teammate, star cornerback Pat Surtain, has taken notice of Moss’s development and progress on the field.

“I’ve observed a significant amount of growth in his game,” Surtain remarked. “The improvements are evident and translate well because he consistently puts in the effort every day during practice, and it’s showing in games.” He emphasized the importance of having a player like Moss who is committed to improving each week, stating, “With Riley getting better regularly, I have complete confidence in his abilities. He has become a key component of our defense, and we’re excited to continue building around him.

So far this season, when quarterbacks Geno Smith and Justin Fields have targeted Moss, they have recorded a combined passer rating of 89.9. Although this isn’t an outstanding figure, it is lower than the passer ratings Smith (97.4) and Fields (94.4) have achieved in 2024. This suggests that Moss is effectively limiting the success of opposing quarterbacks when they throw in his direction.

While Moss is still in search of his first pass breakup and interception, he has made a solid contribution with 15 tackles in the early part of the season. His performance indicates he is trending in the right direction, bolstered by Surtain’s support and guidance.

Overall, Moss’s emergence as a starting cornerback signifies a promising development for the Broncos’ defense. His dedication to improvement, combined with the encouragement from a seasoned player like Surtain, sets a solid foundation for his continued growth. The Broncos are hopeful that as the season progresses, Moss will make even more impactful plays, solidifying his role and enhancing the team’s defensive capabilities. With Surtain’s mentorship and Moss’s work ethic, the future looks bright for this young cornerback as he seeks to make his mark in the NFL.
