Three games into the season, East Carolina has reportedly lost its top player for the year.
Defensive back Shavon Revel Jr. will miss the remainder of the 2024 season due to a torn ACL, as reported by ESPN’s Pete Thamel on Friday morning. Revel suffered the injury during practice leading up to East Carolina’s game against Liberty on Saturday.
In the first three games, Revel recorded two interceptions, including one that he returned for a touchdown. The Pirates, currently 2-1, have already matched their win total from 2023.
A native of Winston-Salem, Revel is considered a strong candidate for the 2025 NFL draft; if selected in the first round, he would be the first East Carolina player to achieve that since running back Chris Johnson in 2008.
Thamel cited an NFL scout who likened Revel to former Toledo cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, who turned his Group of Five success into a first-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in April.
