The Kansas City Chiefs have officially placed wide receiver Rashee Rice on injured reserve, which means he will be sidelined for at least four games.
Rice sustained his injury during last Sunday’s match against the Los Angeles Chargers after receiving a low hit from his own quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, who had missed a tackle on Chargers cornerback Kristian Fulton.
After the incident, Rice was assisted to the sidelines and needed to be carted off the field, ultimately not returning to the game.
Earlier today, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid stated, “We’ll get testing done and let you know.” However, this move to injured reserve suggests that Rice’s injury is quite serious, confirming that he will miss the next four weeks.
As the leading receiver for the Chiefs, Rice has been having an impressive season, catching 24 of 29 passes for a total of 288 yards and two touchdowns. His absence is a significant loss for the team, as noted by teammate Travis Kelce on the latest episode of his New Heights podcast.
Kelce expressed his concern, saying, “It’s tough to see Rashee go down during the game. I really admire how he plays the game and approaches each practice.” He added that it’s hard not to root for players who consistently perform well, calling it a “huge dagger” to witness Rice’s injury.
As we continue, it’s important for the team to support one another and adapt to this situation. Our thoughts are with Rashee as he begins his recovery, and we look forward to welcoming him back to the field soon.
