Former Washington State linebacker Devin Richardson, who spent a significant portion of training camp with the team, has been re-signed to the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad, the team announced on Thursday.
Veteran outside linebacker Tyus Bowser’s contract with the practice squad has been terminated, making him available to sign with another team. Bowser was elevated from the practice squad in Weeks 3 and 4 to help address defensive injuries, playing 37 snaps during those games and recording one tackle and one pressure, according to Pro Football Focus.
Devin Richardson, an undrafted rookie, initially tried out for the Seahawks during rookie minicamp in May and was later signed to the 90-man roster. However, he was released on August 19 to make space for two tight ends due to injuries at that position.
In one preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Richardson made three tackles and allowed two catches in coverage (on two targets) for 13 yards.
With Jerome Baker still recovering from a hamstring injury and having missed the last two games, Richardson provides additional depth at inside linebacker. Patrick O’Connell is also on Seattle’s practice squad. Meanwhile, rookie fourth-round pick Tyrice Knight and second-year linebacker Drake Thomas have been stepping in for Baker.
Adding more options is beneficial, and Bowser’s release may signal good news for Seattle’s currently injured edge rushers. Both Boye Mafe and Uchenna Nwosu returned to practice on Wednesday, suggesting they could be ready to play against the New York Giants on Sunday.
