After starting the season ranked and securing a convincing 48-3 victory over Lindenwood, the Kansas Jayhawks’ offense has since plummeted.
The team has failed to score more than 30 points in any of their four games since the season opener, grappling with both scoring issues and ball security. Quarterback Jalon Daniels, who has been crucial to the offense, is facing challenges; he has thrown eight interceptions and only five touchdown passes. Although he has had some success running the ball, his passing struggles have hindered the team’s performance.
Fans are increasingly vocal about their dissatisfaction with offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes, calling for his dismissal amid claims that his play-calling has stifled the team’s culture. Grimes, a two-time finalist for the Broyles Award, previously developed quarterback Zach Wilson at BYU but was let go from Baylor due to offensive regression.
Despite the mounting pressure from fans for Grimes to be fired, it appears that the Kansas program may not make such a move during the season. Following a four-game losing streak that has nearly eliminated any hopes of competing for the conference championship, the Jayhawks’ offensive struggles remain a focal point of frustration.
After a 38-27 loss to the TCU Horned Frogs, Grimes will transition from the sideline to the press box to enhance his perspective on the game. Although fans have yet to target co-offensive coordinator Jim Zebrowski for criticism, continued struggles from Daniels could shift scrutiny toward him as well.
