Robert Saleh has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the New York Jets following Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings, according to reports.
Despite having star quarterback Aaron Rodgers fully healthy, the Jets have struggled this NFL season, now holding a disappointing 2-3 record after their latest defeat. Just days after that game in London, where Saleh controversially displayed a Lebanon flag on the sidelines, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported his firing.
Jets owner Woody Johnson is expected to appoint a new head coach by Monday, ahead of their game against the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium. In the interim, defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will take over coaching responsibilities.
Saleh made history as the NFL‘s first Muslim-American head coach when he joined the Jets in 2021. He leaves with a 20-36 record, failing to lead the team to the playoffs in each of his three full seasons. During his tenure, he had to navigate six different starting quarterbacks, including Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson, Mike White, Trevor Siemian, Tim Boyle, and Joe Flacco.
This marks the first time in 25 years that Johnson has fired a head coach mid-season.
