The Detroit Lions have emerged as potential contenders for a significant trade, with reports suggesting they may pursue a blockbuster deal. As the team gears up for another serious playoff run, they are actively looking to strengthen their roster and address any lingering weaknesses.

With injuries impacting key positions and the defense ranking in the lower half of the league in yards allowed, acquiring a high-impact player could be just what they need. The player in question is Budda Baker, the All-Pro safety from the Arizona Cardinals.

Baker has been a prominent name in trade discussions since he requested a trade in April 2023, seeking either a new beginning or a revised contract. The 27-year-old safety is currently under a $59 million contract and has consistently ranked among the league’s top defensive playmakers. His career statistics include 737 tackles, 7.5 sacks, seven interceptions, six forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries, highlighting his versatility and game-changing abilities.

On Wednesday, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox mentioned the Lions as a potential suitor for Baker, emphasizing the team’s open Super Bowl window. “The Detroit Lions, who have a fully-open Super Bowl window, should be interested,” Knox stated. “Detroit’s defense has improved this year but still ranks in the bottom half of the league in yards allowed. Additionally, the Lions recently placed safety Ifeatu Melifonwu on injured reserve.”

Baker, a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, has been linked to Detroit before. Earlier this year, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay suggested a trade scenario where the Lions would send a 2026 third-round pick to the Cardinals in exchange for Baker. “Budda Baker would be a fantastic fit in the Motor City, not only for his immense skill but also for his cultural alignment with the program head coach Dan Campbell has built,” Kay noted.

Acquiring Baker would not only enhance the Lions’ secondary but also introduce a tone-setting leader to the locker room—an essential element for a team aiming for a deep playoff run. As the trade deadline approaches, all eyes are on Detroit to see if they will make a bold move to secure the $59 million star.
