The 27-year-old safety is currently under a $59 million contract and has consistently ranked among the league’s top defensive playmakers. His career statistics include 737 tackles, 7.5 sacks, seven interceptions, six forced fumbles, and five fumble recoveries, highlighting his versatility and game-changing abilities.
On Wednesday, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox mentioned the Lions as a potential suitor for Baker, emphasizing the team’s open Super Bowl window. “The Detroit Lions, who have a fully-open Super Bowl window, should be interested,” Knox stated. “Detroit’s defense has improved this year but still ranks in the bottom half of the league in yards allowed. Additionally, the Lions recently placed safety Ifeatu Melifonwu on injured reserve.”
Baker, a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, has been linked to Detroit before. Earlier this year, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay suggested a trade scenario where the Lions would send a 2026 third-round pick to the Cardinals in exchange for Baker. “Budda Baker would be a fantastic fit in the Motor City, not only for his immense skill but also for his cultural alignment with the program head coach Dan Campbell has built,” Kay noted.
