Future Hall of Fame cornerback and current free agent Patrick Peterson is open to a possible reunion with the Vikings if they express interest.

Peterson played for the Vikings during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, bridging the end of Mike Zimmer’s tenure and the beginning of Kevin O’Connell’s. Over those two years, he participated in 31 games and recorded six interceptions. After a standout 2022 season, he joined the Steelers, where he played all 17 games last year, starting six, but his performance noticeably declined.

When asked about returning to Minnesota on the Zach Gelb Show, Peterson said, “I would like to be there too. I love the coaching staff. I developed a strong relationship with Coach Kevin during my time there. It’s a fantastic organization with great people to work with every day.”

At 34, Peterson would join Stephon Gilmore as the oldest player in an already seasoned Vikings cornerback lineup. Although he remains unsigned since the end of last season, he’s staying in shape and open to a return to the NFL.

“I’m still keeping my options open. I’m training and working out because I believe I can still contribute. I feel I have enough left in the tank to help a team win, but ultimately, the decision isn’t mine. For now, I’m doing everything I can in case the phone rings.”

However, it seems unlikely that the Vikings will pursue him unless an injury occurs. They have Gilmore, Shaq Griffin, and Byron Murphy Jr. as starters, with Fabian Moreau and Akayleb Evans next in line.
