The Yankees traded outfielder Taylor Trammell to the Astros in exchange for cash considerations and outrighted outfielder Duke Ellis from the Major League roster to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Trammell, 27, had been added to the Yankees’ 40-man roster on November 3. He played in 10 games for both the Dodgers and Yankees in 2024, spending most of the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he hit .256/.381/.488 with 18 home runs, 63 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases. Previously, Trammell had big league experience with the Mariners from 2021 to 2023.
Ellis, 26, was mainly used as a pinch-runner for the Yankees, though he did get his first major league hit on September 4 at Texas. He also pinch-ran during Game 4 of the AL Division Series at Kansas City.
In other roster moves, the Yankees added right-handed pitcher Yerry De Los Santos, catcher J.C. Escarra, and outfielder Taylor Trammell to the 40-man roster on November 3. The club also declined the 2025 club option for right-handed pitcher Lou Trivino. Trivino, who has not pitched in the majors since undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2022, made 11 minor league appearances in 2024 with a 4.91 ERA.
The Yankees also declined a $17 million option for first baseman Anthony Rizzo on November 2, making him a free agent. On November 1, the team exercised a $2.5 million option for right-handed pitcher Luke Weaver, who had a strong 2024 season as a reliever.
Additionally, several players, including pitchers Tim Hill, Clay Holmes, Tommy Kahnle, Jonathan Loáisiga, outfielder Juan Soto, second baseman Gleyber Torres, and outfielder Alex Verdugo, became free agents as of October 31.
Injury updates:
– JT Brubaker (recovering from Tommy John surgery and an oblique strain) is expected to return in 2025. He made three appearances in September with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following his recovery from surgery.
– Everson Pereira (recovering from a right UCL tear) is also expected to return in 2025. Pereira underwent Tommy John surgery in June after playing through the injury earlier in the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
