The San Francisco Giants are entering the offseason under the new leadership of Buster Posey, aiming to revitalize their team and compete with the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers in the tough National League West. To keep pace with these powerhouse teams, the Giants need to bolster their roster by acquiring more talent and bringing in star players. However, improving on last year’s performance may prove to be a significant challenge.

In a recent prediction, Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer suggested the Giants could lose their ace this winter, with Blake Snell expected to sign a four-year, $140 million deal with the Boston Red Sox.

Rymer referenced sources from The Athletic, noting that Snell could sign for far less than the $240 million he was rumored to seek last offseason, and Boston could be a strong candidate.

“Snell could sign for $100 million less than his rumored $240 million asking price from last winter, and it might actually be too short,” Rymer wrote. He highlighted that Boston could be a perfect fit because Snell isn’t tied to draft pick compensation and wouldn’t require a lengthy deal.

Rymer mentioned several teams that could be in the running for Snell, including the Giants, Red Sox, New York Yankees, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays, and Texas Rangers. With Snell expected to command less than $150 million, his market is expected to be highly competitive.

However, the situation could shift depending on the outcome of Juan Soto’s free agency. If the Red Sox, who recently had a successful meeting with Soto, manage to land him, they may no longer pursue Snell. Even so, Boston could still benefit from adding another ace to complement current staff leader Tanner Houck.
