The Seattle Seahawks have made several roster moves ahead of their Week 13 game against the New York Jets.
Right guard Anthony Bradford, who suffered an ankle injury during Sunday’s victory over the Arizona Cardinals, has been placed on injured reserve. Head coach Mike Macdonald described the injury as “pretty severe,” leading to the decision to move Bradford to IR. After the game, Bradford was seen wearing a walking boot and using crutches.
As per the rules, Bradford will be required to miss at least four games before he can return from IR. Given that there are only six games remaining in the season, the earliest he could potentially return would be Week 17 against the Chicago Bears.
To fill Bradford’s spot on the roster, linebacker Patrick O’Connell has been promoted from the practice squad. O’Connell has already played 30 special teams snaps this season. In a corresponding move, rookie running back George Holani has been moved back to the practice squad from practice squad IR. Holani had been on IR since Week 3 due to an ankle injury sustained during a game against the New England Patriots.
With Bradford now on IR, the Seahawks will have rookies Christian Haynes and Sataoa Laumea competing for the starting right guard position. Laumea has yet to play in a regular season game, while Haynes has participated in at least one snap in every game this season except for two.
“We’re going to take a long look at Sataoa as well,” Macdonald said when asked about the starting right guard competition. “But Christian has played winning football for us, and we want him to continue to grow.”
