Former LSU Quarterback Walker Howard Joins Transfer Portal

While the portal itself hasn’t officially been open for long, many players have already announced their intentions to enter, with countless others making moves behind the scenes. One of the latest to make the decision is former LSU and Ole Miss quarterback Walker Howard.

Howard, who started his college career at LSU, spent only one season with the Tigers. He played in both the season opener and the Bowl Game against Purdue, finishing his brief tenure with LSU with a modest 2-for-4 passing record for 7 yards, and rushed for 33 yards on 6 carries. His most notable moment at LSU, however, wasn’t on the field. It came during his recruiting visit, when a viral video featuring him and head coach Brian Kelly caught the attention of college football fans across the country.

 Ole Miss,

After transferring to Howard spent two seasons in Oxford. Unfortunately for him, he found himself buried on the depth chart behind Jaxson Dart, thejulsports.com/…/breaking-news-former-lsu-quarterback-walker-howard-joins-transfer-portal Rebels’ starting quarterback, and has seemingly been passed over by freshman Austin Simmons. During his time at Ole Miss, Howard made just a brief appearance, completing 3 of 6 passes for 56 yards. Despite the limited playing time, Howard’s potential remained intriguing.

As Howard enters the transfer portal, it’s clear that the LSU football team is on the lookout for a quarterback to add depth, which could make Howard an option for his former program. However, it seems unlikely that Howard would transfer to LSU just to back up another starting quarterback. The most plausible scenario for a return to Baton Rouge would be if Garrett Nussmeier declares for the NFL Draft, opening up an opportunity for Howard to compete for a more significant role.

Given the relatively sparse number of starting-caliber quarterbacks entering the portal this season, Howard could quickly emerge as one of the top available options. His decision will be closely watched by both LSU and other college football programs in need of quarterback help. Where he lands will be a key storyline in the coming weeks as the transfer portal continues to shape the landscape of college football rosters.
