Breaking News: Red Sox make Blockbuster trade pursuing five All-Stars after…
The Boston Red Sox made a significant move by trading four prospects, including highly regarded catcher Kyle Teel and 2024 first-round pick Braden Montgomery, to acquire Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox. Crochet, who made his first All-Star appearance in 2024, transitioned from a reliever to a starter, posting impressive numbers with 209 strikeouts in 146 innings and a 3.58 ERA across 32 starts. With his solid performance, he is now set to become the Red Sox’s No. 1 starter for 2025. His contract, which will pay him just under $3 million in 2025, runs through 2026 before he hits free agency.
However, the Red Sox aren’t stopping there in their efforts to bolster their roster. According to MLB insiders, they are pursuing several other All-Star caliber players to enhance their squad. Among the top targets is former National League Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes, whom the Red Sox hope to pair with Crochet. Burnes, traded to the Baltimore Orioles before the 2024 season, made his fourth All-Star team, posting a 2.92 ERA and a 128 ERA+ while striking out 181 batters in 194⅓ innings. The Red Sox are reportedly keen on adding him to their rotation.
Additionally, Boston is eyeing Seattle Mariners starter Luis Castillo, a three-time All-Star, for a potential trade. Castillo, who had a 3.64 ERA and 175 strikeouts in 175⅓ innings over 30 starts in 2024, still has three years left on his five-year, $108 million contract. The Red Sox are also reportedly pursuing former Houston Astros star Alex Bregman, a three-time All-Star and two-time World Series champion. With Rafael Devers already entrenched at third base, Bregman would be asked to play second base for Boston.
To further strengthen their offense, the Red Sox are reportedly targeting two All-Star outfielders: Anthony Santander and Teoscar Hernández. After losing Tyler O’Neill to the Orioles in free agency, Boston needs to fill a power-hitting corner outfield position, making these outfielders key targets for their offseason plans. With multiple All-Stars on their radar, the Red Sox are clearly determined to improve their roster and make a serious push for the 2025 season.
