The Minnesota Vikings offense has been among the worst in the NFL this season, averaging only 17.5 points per game, ranking 29th in the league. The biggest issue has been inconsistent quarterback play, as the Vikings have cycled through multiple starters this season. With the team currently holding the No. 1 pick, according to Tankathon, they are likely to select a quarterback, with Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders frequently linked to the top spot.
However, the Vikings’ wide receiver corps has also been underwhelming this year. Tyler Brooke of The 33rd Team suggested that if Minnesota drafts Sanders, they should consider trading a third and a fifth-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for star wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
“Sanders has thrived at the college level with the deep ball,” Brooke wrote in a Dec. 18 column. “According to Pro Football Focus, he has thrown 13 touchdowns with zero interceptions for a 133.0 passer rating when throwing 20-plus yards downfield this season. Hill hasn’t had the opportunity to be nearly as consistent as a deep threat this season, with the Dolphins scheme focused on getting the ball out as fast as possible.”
Brooke continued, “That Sanders-Hill connection could give the Vikings offense some much-needed juice. The Vikings have an extra third-round pick from the trade of a previous player, so they could afford to give up one of their third-round picks with an additional Day 3 selection to acquire a star receiver for their likely first-round quarterback.”
Is Tyreek Hill Looking to Be Traded?
Hill is one of the most dynamic players in the NFL. He is the only player in NFL history to have a receiving, rushing, kickoff return, punt return, and fumble recovery touchdown. He also led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards. While he’s been a major asset for the Dolphins, things could be starting to sour in Miami. Hill recently posted “It’s time for me to go coach” on X, which many interpreted as him hinting that he wants to leave the Dolphins.
Miami is having a rough year, and Hill recently turned 30, which could lead him to consider a move to a team with better Super Bowl chances.
Would Hill Want to Go to the Vikings?
The idea of the Vikings trading for Hill raises some questions. After recently trading away veteran receiver Davante Adams, it seems unlikely they would want to add another aging, expensive wide receiver. However, if Sanders becomes their quarterback, he will need a reliable receiver. Jakobi Meyers has proven himself as a solid option in the middle of the field, and adding Hill would give Sanders a deep threat, leading to potential big plays.
Still, it’s hard to imagine Hill being eager to join the Vikings. The team has not won a playoff game since 2002 and currently holds one of the worst records in the NFL. While adding players like Sanders and Hill could spark a turnaround, there’s no guarantee.
Given Hill’s age and career aspirations, he might prefer to play for a contender like the Los Angeles Chargers or even return to the Kansas City Chiefs. If winning isn’t his main priority, Hill may choose to stay with the Dolphins, where he’s already established himself as a top player.
