Mets Make Big Splash, Agree to $75M Contract with Sean Manaea

The New York Mets have secured a three-year, $75 million contract with free agent pitcher Sean Manaea, ensuring his return to their starting rotation for the 2025 season and beyond. This deal comes after Manaea exercised his option to become a free agent, opting out of a $13.5 million player option with the Mets in November.

The agreement was confirmed on Monday by multiple sources, including ESPN, The New York Post, and The Athletic. Manaea, a left-handed pitcher, had a solid 2024 season, recording a 12-6 win-loss record with a 3.47 ERA across 32 starts for the Mets. The 24-year-old has compiled an impressive career record of 77 wins and 62 losses with a 4.00 ERA over 228 total appearances, including 198 starts. Manaea’s career also includes stints with the Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres, and San Francisco Giants before joining the Mets.

In the previous year, Manaea signed a two-year, $28 million contract with the Mets. With this new deal, he is poised to join a competitive Mets starting rotation, which is expected to feature several notable names, such as Kodai Senga, David Peterson, Frankie Montas, and Clay Holmes, among others. The Mets are looking to solidify their pitching staff, and Manaea’s return brings experienced depth to the rotation as the team prepares for future seasons. This new contract ensures that Manaea will be a key part of the Mets’ pitching plans moving forward.
