Breaking News: LSU Wide Receiver Transfers Within…

The offseason for LSU has been filled with exciting additions, bringing in a mix of players who could either step in as immediate starters or develop into key contributors over time. However, this period has also seen some departures, including a few players who might not have had major roles next season but were still highly regarded prospects. It’s always a bit disheartening to see top recruits leave without making the impact that was initially anticipated.

One such departure came early in the transfer portal cycle, with wide receiver Shelton Sampson Jr. entering the portal following his second season at LSU. Sampson, a highly touted recruit from Louisiana, had a lot of promise when he first arrived at LSU, so his decision to leave was a disappointment for many fans and observers who were hoping to see him fulfill his potential on the field.

After taking some time to weigh his options, Shelton Sampson Jr. made the choice to remain in Louisiana, committing to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL), also known as the Ragin’ Cajuns. This move not only keeps him close to home but also reunites him with his former Catholic High School teammate, quarterback Daniel Beale. Additionally, the transfer places Sampson alongside former LSU Tiger Walker Howard, who had previously transferred to Ole Miss before landing at ULL, where both will now look to make an impact as starters.

During his time at LSU, Sampson saw limited playing time, appearing in eight games during the season but failing to register a catch. This came after he redshirted the 2023 season. While it can be difficult to accept when a player chooses to transfer, Sampson’s decision reflects a strategic move that ultimately works in his favor. The transfer portal has allowed him to find a new opportunity at a school where he will likely play more and showcase his skills, which wasn’t guaranteed at LSU due to the influx of wide receiver talent brought in by head coach Brian Kelly. With LSU adding transfers at wide receiver, it became evident that Sampson wouldn’t be relied upon in a prominent role. Now, at ULL, he can continue his career while staying close to his roots, much like when he originally chose LSU.
