Breaking News: Lions quarterback Kellen Moore, named head coach of the Saints
Kellen Moore, 36, a former quarterback who played three seasons with the Lions from 2012-14, was named head coach of the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday. His hiring marks the conclusion of this year’s coaching cycle, with seven teams, including the Chicago Bears (Ben Johnson) and New York Jets (Aaron Glenn), hiring new leaders.

Moore was a four-year starter at Boise State before joining the Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2012. He completed 69.8% of his 1,658 collegiate pass attempts, totaling 14,667 yards, 142 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions, with a passer rating of 118.61. Moore went 50-3 as a starter, losing no more than one game in a season.
Although he was behind Matthew Stafford on the depth chart and never played in a regular-season game with the Lions, Moore did start two games as a Dallas Cowboys player in 2015. After two more seasons with the Cowboys, he retired and became their quarterbacks coach in 2018. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2019, holding that role until 2022.
After parting ways with the Cowboys, Moore joined Brandon Staley’s staff as the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023. Staley was fired after 14 games, and Moore then moved to the Philadelphia Eagles as their offensive coordinator, helping them win Super Bowl LIX on Sunday.
