There’s no uncertainty about who will be under center for the South Carolina Gamecocks in 2025 — LaNorris Sellers is firmly established as the team’s starting quarterback. He enters the season as one of the top returning QBs in college football.
The only real question is just how high Sellers’ ceiling is this year, and how far he can take a Gamecocks program that appears to be trending upward. The outlook for South Carolina football is undeniably promising.
A big part of that optimism stems from the quarterback room. Head coach Shane Beamer spoke to the media recently about the future at the position, including the ongoing competition for the backup QB spot.

“I wouldn’t say we’re coming out of spring practice with a clear-cut number two,” Beamer explained. “That’s still very much a competition. Dante Reno has had some good moments. Air Noland showed flashes during Saturday’s scrimmage. And Cutter Woods just led a successful two-minute drill that ended in a game-winning field goal. Each of those guys has had strong performances.”
Beamer also mentioned that he hasn’t yet discussed the backup quarterback situation in depth with new offensive coordinator Mike Shula — and there’s no rush to name a clear No. 2 just yet.
“I haven’t really talked with Coach Shula about it,” Beamer added. “But in my mind, it’s something we’ll let play out through the summer and into early fall camp. Once we start gearing up for the first game and need to split reps accordingly — maybe 10 days to two weeks out — that’s when we’ll look to make a final decision on the backup.”
