The future of Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers is a subject of ongoing discussion, with varying predictions surrounding his NFL draft prospects. Ewers, a highly talented signal-caller, entered the college football scene with considerable hype, but his path to the NFL remains uncertain.

The quarterback situation in Austin, Texas, is complicated, especially with highly touted freshman Arch Manning waiting in the wings. While Manning’s arrival has led some to question Ewers’ future with the Longhorns, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound quarterback still holds considerable potential.

Despite the hype surrounding Ewers, he is not guaranteed to be a first-round selection in the 2025 NFL draft. In fact, some experts are not as high on him as others. For instance, Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling’s most recent mock draft does not project Ewers to go in the first round.

His draft stock has fluctuated based on his performances over the course of his college career, and while he has shown flashes of brilliance, his consistency has been questioned. These inconsistencies could impact his draft position and are factors that NFL teams will carefully evaluate as the draft approaches.

However, some analysts are more optimistic about Ewers’ future. Sports Illustrated’s Michael France, for example, believes that Ewers has the talent to become a top-five pick if he declares for the 2025 draft. In France’s Dec. 2 mock draft, he projected that the New York Giants would select Ewers with the No. 4 overall pick.

France acknowledged that while Ewers’ journey has been long and sometimes tumultuous, his development could make him an ideal pick for a team like the Giants, who are in the market for a new quarterback. France wrote, “Ewers was as highly touted as quarterbacks come when he joined the college ranks. His journey has been a long one, but the finished product is something the Giants won’t be upset about grabbing to replace Daniel Jones.”

The Giants are currently in need of a quarterback after releasing former top-10 pick Daniel Jones in November. New York made the decision to part ways with Jones despite his four-year, $160 million contract that was set to run through the 2026 season.

The decision to move on from Jones leaves the Giants in a vulnerable position, needing a fresh face under center. With the quarterback position being a major focus for the team moving forward, Ewers could potentially be the solution.

For Ewers, his next move is crucial. He can attempt to elevate his stock through the pre-draft process, showcasing his skills at the NFL Scouting Combine and during individual team workouts.

Alternatively, he could choose to return for another season of college football, refining his game further and potentially declaring for the 2026 NFL draft, where the competition may look different, and his stock could improve. Either way, Ewers’ future remains one of the most intriguing storylines in college football, and it will be interesting to see how his draft prospects unfold in the coming months.
