Breaking News: Red Sox Complete Two-Year Deal with Patrick Sandoval

The Boston Red Sox have officially signed left-handed pitcher Patrick Sandoval to a two-year contract, as announced on Monday. Sandoval, who is currently recovering from elbow ligament surgery, had previously been a key part of the Los Angeles Angels’ pitching rotation.

At 28 years old, Sandoval made 16 starts for the Angels in 2024, posting a 2-8 record along with a 5.08 ERA. However, his season came to a halt after he tore his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) on June 21 while pitching against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The injury occurred during a pitch to his former teammate, Shohei Ohtani. Following the tear, Sandoval underwent internal brace surgery just five days later. The surgery is expected to require at least a year of recovery before he can return to full health and resume his professional career.

Over the course of his six-year major league tenure, all with the Angels, Sandoval has made 100 starts and seven relief appearances, accumulating a career record of 19-45 and a 4.01 ERA. His time in the big leagues has seen him develop into a reliable, if sometimes inconsistent, arm for the Angels.

In addition to his MLB career, Sandoval earned international recognition in 2023 when he played for Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic. His impressive performance during the tournament helped elevate his profile, as he posted a 1-0 record with a 1.23 ERA in two starts. For his efforts, Sandoval was named to the All-WBC Team, a prestigious honor recognizing the tournament’s top players.

Despite his current recovery from surgery, the Red Sox are hopeful that Sandoval will be able to contribute to their pitching staff once he returns to full health. His experience, particularly his international success and solid career ERA, adds depth to a team looking to strengthen its rotation in the coming years.
