After hiring Eagles assistant coach T.J. Paganetti, the New Orleans Saints have brought Doug Nussmeier on board as their new offensive coordinator, according to Ian Rapoport.

Nussmeier has worked with notable quarterbacks like Justin Herbert and Dak Prescott, having collaborated with them in Dallas and Los Angeles with the Cowboys.

A former NFL quarterback, Nussmeier was selected by the Saints in the fourth round of the 1994 draft. While he didn’t find significant success in the NFL, he became a Grey Cup champion in 2000 with the British Columbia Lions in Canada.

Since retiring, Nussmeier has held various coaching roles in Canada, college football, and the NFL, and there’s speculation that his move could be influenced by personal reasons.

Nussmeier is the father of LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who chose to stay in school for his redshirt senior season rather than enter the 2025 NFL Draft, making him a potential first-round pick in 2026. By joining the Saints, Nussmeier would be closer to his two sons—Garrett, who is entering his final season at LSU, and Colton, who is still exploring his college options.
