Milwaukee Brewers Avoid Major Injury to Key Infielder
The Milwaukee Brewers are currently facing a series of injury challenges as they work to finalize their roster ahead of the 2025 season. After a strong showing in a couple of recent spring training games, where they secured two shutout victories, the team saw two more players go down with injuries, adding to their growing list of concerns.
Brice Turang, the Brewers’ Gold Glove second baseman who is expected to transition to shortstop this season following Willy Adames‘ departure, was scratched from the lineup just before the game against the Los Angeles Angels due to shoulder soreness. Turang, who has been working extra hard to prepare for the shortstop role, may have experienced some fatigue as a result of his added workload. Fortunately, Brewers manager Pat Murphy noted that the team took precautionary measures and held Turang out to prevent any further issues. Turang, who has been hitting .258/.303/.419 with a home run and three RBI this spring, was cleared medically but sat out as a precaution.

In addition to Turang’s injury scare, the Brewers also lost starting pitcher Tobias Myers during the same game due to an oblique injury. Myers, who had a promising rookie season with a 9-6 record and a 3.00 ERA, was pulled from the game after feeling discomfort. Murphy expressed concern over the injury, acknowledging the severity of oblique injuries, but noted that further tests would be needed to determine the extent of the damage. The Brewers’ rotation is already facing challenges with Brandon Woodruff recovering from a shoulder injury that sidelined him for the 2024 season and other injuries among their pitching staff, so the situation with Myers has added to the uncertainty.
On top of these injuries, the Brewers are dealing with other issues this spring. Aaron Ashby and DL Hall have also faced injuries, though Ashby is expected to be back soon after being shut down for a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, Hall is on the 60-day injured list. Additionally, Blake Perkins suffered a broken leg during batting practice, compounding the team’s injury woes. As a result, the Brewers are focused on maintaining the health of their roster as they prepare for the 2025 season.
