Following consistent roster changes in recent seasons, OSU enters the 2024 campaign with greater continuity than most teams nationwide. Despite a strong lineup of returning starters positioning them among the Big 12’s elite, new arrivals still have the potential to make a notable difference.
This offseason, defensive end Obi Ezeigbo transferred to OSU after spending his first five years at Gannon University. During his tenure at Gannon, Ezeigbo played under Nardo, who was the defensive coordinator for the Division II team.
According to a recent ESPN article highlighting sleeper players for each top 25 team, Ezeigbo was identified as the standout for the Cowboys. While transitioning from Division II to the Big 12 presents challenges, Ezeigbo is well-prepared for the leap.
In 2023, Ezeigbo excelled on Gannon’s defense, earning First-Team All-PSAC West honors. Across 11 games, the fifth-year player amassed 54 total tackles, including 7.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss.
With a distinguished career at Gannon, Ezeigbo’s stats include 108 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, and 14 sacks over 37 games. His journey began after a successful stint at Ewing High School in New Jersey.
OSU, coming off a 10-win season, stands to benefit significantly from Ezeigbo’s addition, bolstering an already formidable defense. As Nardo enters his second season with the Cowboys, the familiarity of adding another trusted player to the defensive line could prove pivotal in their quest for defensive excellence.
