Destrehan High School continues its legacy of producing top-tier football talent, as two standout players from the Class of 2025, safety Jhase Thomas and wide receiver Phillip Wright, have officially committed to their respective collegiate paths.
Thomas, who garnered attention later in the recruiting cycle, opted to join LSU after receiving an offer from head coach Brian Kelly during a May camp. Expressing his excitement, Thomas highlighted the genuine relationships forged with LSU’s coaching staff as pivotal in his decision-making process. His commitment came on his birthday, choosing LSU over offers from Ole Miss, Houston, Colorado, and Texas Tech. With a versatile skill set honed under the mentorship of his father, former Saints cornerback Fred Thomas, Jhase Thomas looks forward to contributing as a free safety at LSU.
Meanwhile, Phillip Wright, recognized for his exceptional speed and athleticism, deliberated between LSU, Georgia, and Michigan before electing to commit to the Wolverines. Citing Michigan’s offensive fit and the coaching allure of Ronald Bellamy, a fellow New Orleans native and Shaw alumnus, Wright aims to make an impact in Michigan’s pro-style offense as a receiver. He joins a cohort of New Orleans recruits heading to Michigan, fostering camaraderie and ambition among the group.
Both Thomas and Wright are eager to excel in their upcoming senior seasons at Destrehan High School, setting ambitious goals that include vying for a state championship and personal growth on the field. Their commitments mark a significant milestone in their football journeys, poised to make an impact at the collegiate level and beyond.
