Former Maryland linebacker Fa’Najae Gotay has joined the Auburn Tigers roster as a transfer, bringing with him valuable experience and a year of eligibility. Gotay, classified as a super senior, entered the transfer portal in June before committing to Auburn, as announced by the team.

Beginning his collegiate career as a redshirt in 2018, Gotay progressed to play in nine games as a sophomore at Maryland, tallying 26 tackles. His tenure with the Terps continued through the challenging 2020 COVID-affected season, during which he appeared in four games and subsequently earned a medical redshirt in 2021. Over the past two seasons, Gotay participated in 24 games, starting six, and contributed significantly to the defense with 37 tackles and an interception in 2022, followed by 45 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and another interception in 2023. Notably, his final game with Maryland was the Music City Bowl against Auburn, where he led his team with six tackles.

Originally recognized as a 3-star prospect by 247 Sports, Gotay attracted attention from multiple collegiate programs, including Tennessee, Arkansas, Illinois, and Louisville, before choosing Maryland.

Joining Auburn’s linebacker corps alongside fellow transfer Dorian Mousi Jr. from Duke, Gotay adds depth and experience to the team. Returning linebackers Eugene Asante and Austin Keys, along with third-year player Robert Woodward, are set to complement Auburn’s defensive lineup. Additionally, Auburn has bolstered its roster with freshmen recruits DeMarcus Riddick and G.J. Barber, who are part of the Tigers’ highly regarded top-10 recruiting class. With seniors Gotay and Mousi in pivotal roles, the newcomers are expected to integrate seamlessly into Auburn’s football program.
