The South Sydney Rabbitohs have made a significant addition to their roster, signing promising outside back Fletcher Myers to a contract that runs through the end of the 2025 season. The 21-year-old has been released from his playing contract with the Newcastle Knights and joins the Rabbitohs immediately on a development contract for the remainder of the 2024 season.
Myers, a proud Worimi man and a Waratah Mayfield Cheetahs junior, spent two years in the Sea Eagles’ development pathway before returning to Newcastle. During his time with the Knights, he was on a development contract this year, playing 20 NSW Cup matches with both the Knights and Sea Eagles over the past two seasons. Additionally, Myers had opportunities to showcase his talent in NRL pre-season trials with both clubs and represented New South Wales under 16s and the New South Wales Koori under 16s in 2019, where he earned man-of-the-match honors in the annual clash against the Queensland Murri under 16s.
In parallel with his rugby career, Myers is pursuing a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Science and Physical Education at Southern Cross University, demonstrating his commitment to preparing for life beyond the football field.
Rabbitohs Head of Football, Mark Ellison, expressed enthusiasm about Myers joining the team, highlighting his potential to bolster the Rabbitohs’ depth in the outside backs, particularly in the centers.
“Fletcher is highly motivated to take the next step in his career and he has expressed his excitement to have the opportunity to push for that to happen at South Sydney,” Ellison said. “He is a big body with skills to match, he’s a mature young man, and we’re looking forward to having him don the red and green of the Rabbitohs this year and next.”
