Highly sought-after wide receiver prospect Derek Meadows committed to LSU for his college football career on Saturday. According to Hayes Fawcett of On3, Meadows selected LSU over several prestigious programs such as Alabama, Notre Dame, and Georgia. He justified his choice by stating, “To be the best you must outwork the rest, and LSU was the place to do it.”
Meadows, a 4-star recruit in 247Sports’ composite rankings, is ranked as the No. 68 overall player, No. 10 wide receiver, and the top player from Nevada in the 2025 class. Standing at 6’5″ and weighing 200 pounds, Meadows currently attends Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, where he has excelled both in football and track and field.
In track and field, Meadows was honored as the Nevada 2023 Gatorade Track and Field Player of the Year after securing first place in the 300-meter hurdles and second place in the 110-meter hurdles at the Nevada 5A state championship.
With offers from numerous top-tier college football programs including Michigan, Auburn, Florida, Oregon, and others, Meadows had no shortage of options. However, LSU’s track record of producing top NFL prospects at the wide receiver position, with seven draft picks since 2020 including first-rounders Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase, Malik Nabers, and Brian Thomas Jr., likely influenced his decision.
Last season, under quarterback Jayden Daniels, LSU’s offense was highly prolific, with Daniels even winning the Heisman Trophy. Despite Daniels’ departure to the NFL, Meadows was likely swayed by the potential for continued offensive success under head coach Brian Kelly, known for his effective offensive strategies.
