Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State’s 2024 recruiting class continues to expand. While much of the class was already solidified during early signing day, the program has been actively adding players through the transfer portal and securing commitments from preferred walk-ons in recent days.

On Wednesday, the Cowboys welcomed Yamil Talib, a linebacker from Plano, TX, who committed to the program as a preferred walk-on. Talib joins a growing contingent of recruits from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, a region that Oklahoma State’s coaching staff prioritizes in their recruiting efforts.

Talib is slated to join Bryan Nardo’s 3-3-5 defensive scheme, known for highlighting the talents of linebackers like Collin Oliver, Nick Martin, and Xavier Benson, who have excelled as playmakers. As a preferred walk-on, Talib enters an environment where he can develop his skills and compete for a scholarship opportunity.

Choosing Oklahoma State presents a significant opportunity for preferred walk-ons from neighboring states, as the program has a track record of nurturing unranked or lightly recruited players into impactful contributors.

Previously holding offers from UAB, Texas State, Mississippi Valley State, and Texas-Rio Grande Valley, Talib ultimately opted for Oklahoma State. His senior season highlights showcase his potential and athleticism, underscoring his decision to join the Cowboys’ program.
