Auburn football’s efforts in recruiting for the Class of 2025 have seen both successes and setbacks. Tight end Hollis Davidson initially committed to the Tigers but later withdrew his commitment, only to reaffirm it on July 4th. Now, Auburn is striving to bring another recruit back into their ranks.
Four-star linebacker Tyler Lockhart committed to Auburn in early May but opted to explore other options following an official visit to in-state rival Mississippi State in late June. Despite reopening his recruitment, Lockhart remains interested and has confirmed his attendance at Big Cat Weekend. His recruitment has been characterized by unpredictability, leaving uncertainties about his decision going into the weekend.
Payton Thorne Reflects on Reuniting with Sam Jackson V
Payton Thorne and Sam Jackson V were teammates in high school and have maintained a connection throughout their college careers, albeit on opposing teams last season when Jackson played quarterback at Cal. This season, Jackson transitions to wide receiver for Auburn football, where he will be a key target for Thorne on the field.
The chemistry between Thorne and Auburn’s wide receivers is not only benefiting from enhanced talent but also from Thorne’s familiarity with Jackson.
“He’ll be a lifelong friend of mine,” Thorne expressed about Jackson, according to Auburn Athletics. “He’s my roommate, an incredible person with a strong competitive drive. He’s hungry for victories. I’m thrilled he’s here, and I’m looking forward to throwing him the ball this season.”
