The Oklahoma State Cowboys have been active on the recruiting front this offseason, aiming to maintain their momentum as summer approaches. However, they faced disappointment on Saturday when they lost out on a local target for the 2025 class.
Head coach Mike Gundy and the Oklahoma State staff pursued Blake Cherry, an offensive tackle hailing from Tulsa, OK. Despite their efforts, Cherry opted to commit to the Arkansas Razorbacks over Oklahoma State.
Cherry, a three-star recruit from Owasso, chose Arkansas despite interest from other schools like Texas A&M, Kansas State, and Nebraska. Interestingly, he made this decision before his official visit, although he had previously visited Fayetteville unofficially in January.
Cherry did make an official visit to Stillwater at the end of April, presenting an opportunity for Oklahoma State to secure his commitment and cap off a successful recruiting month. However, he ultimately chose Arkansas as his collegiate destination.
Standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 295 pounds, Cherry is ranked as the No. 16 recruit in Oklahoma and the No. 55 interior offensive lineman nationally by On3. His upcoming official visit to Arkansas marks his only scheduled visit.
Presently, Oklahoma State holds the No. 28 spot in the 2025 recruiting class rankings by 247Sports. Securing Cherry’s commitment would have likely boosted their ranking, but now Arkansas, currently ranked No. 53, stands to benefit.
Continuing to recruit top-tier talent is crucial for Oklahoma State as they aim to maintain their status as one of the most consistent programs in college football over the past two decades. With Oklahoma and Texas set to depart for the SEC next month, Oklahoma State sees an opportunity to vie for the top spot in the Big 12. Building a roster of elite players will be key to their pursuit of conference titles and potentially a College Football Playoff berth.
