West Coast are supporting Elliot Yeo to play against Hawthorn despite his recent loss, as they have named all their backup players for a WAFL match. Meanwhile, uncertainties persist about Sam Mitchell’s lineup, particularly regarding Finn Maginness, who is traveling as an emergency despite not playing for Box Hill in the VFL.

The Eagles have included Yeo in their lineup for Sunday’s game at Optus Stadium but are allowing him ample time to decide whether he feels ready to compete following his father’s passing earlier in the week. While a final decision may come on game day, West Coast has listed Andrew Gaff, Harry Edwards, and Jack Hutchinson for the WAFL, alongside 16 AFL-listed players set to face Swan Districts earlier in the day.

Andrew Gaff is designated as Yeo’s backup, having been benched for the second time this season after a surprising loss to North Melbourne before the bye. The return of top draft pick Harley Reid and Tim Kelly from suspension and injury respectively ensures minimal disruption to the Eagles’ lineup.

Additionally, West Coast experimented with premiership forward Liam Ryan in midfield, where he achieved career-best numbers with 19 possessions and six clearances, demonstrating speed at stoppages.

Coach Adam Simpson emphasized Yeo’s autonomy in deciding his readiness to play: “We’re respecting the difficult decision he’s facing. If he feels up to it, he’ll play. If not, we’ll support his choice, given the circumstances.”

Fans anticipate Reid’s return after suspension, though attention may shift if Maginness joins Hawthorn’s lineup unexpectedly. Simpson suggested Reid could counter attention by alternating in a forward role and highlighted the importance of adapting to defensive strategies targeting him.

In summary, West Coast is prepared to accommodate Yeo’s personal situation while managing lineup adjustments ahead of their clash with Hawthorn.
